Footsmart Podiatry uses equipment and software that has been developed in close collaboration with major European Universities and Research Centres to investigate problems related to posture and gait (walking and running).
Our force platform, or Electronic Baropodometer, contains thousands of sensor receptors that measure foot pressure distribution whilst standing and walking. This allows precise analysis of weight distribution through each section of each foot right the way through your gait cycle. The length of our force platform enables natural walking and therefore, accurate assessment. The examinations are repeated several times to identify gait or balance disorders.
An video capture system, consisting of a digital video camera linked to the force platform, performs a total body examination whilst your foot pressure is being recorded. This enables analysis of the principal body segments (i.e. front, back, sides) in respect to body rotations, posture, lack of balance, muscle weaknesses, limb length differences, or any biomechanical anomaly that can contribute to inefficient walking and running, and injury/pain.
This synchronised visual and pressure analysis is the key to thorough assessment of your static and dynamic posture. It also allows in-depth patient education by demonstrating why you have developed an injury or pain
